Match Report v Royal Observatory

Jon Doig  Tuesday, May 01, 2001  12:51 GMT

A game of two halves, the first surprisingly long and the second even longer. It was a warm evening, perfect conditions for open fast football. A full team arrived in the changing rooms at least 5 mins after scheduled kick off. A brief introduction of players, we kicked off with no referee and conceded a goal immediately without even touching it; to a team that was big, fast and skilful. A long evening was in store but playing 'total' football we struck back and with silky interplay were amazingly up 5-2 at half time. Alan Miller, Andrea, Alun, Ryan and one other all hitting the back of the old onion bag (Ryans first goal since schoolboy football).

A goal conceded early in the second half was nearly a body blow, but we showed real character and struck back with two..... including a Jon Doig, snatched from the person who legitimately won it, penalty! A Monty strike from an indirect free kick sealed it. After a period of exhibition football conducted by Monty and his left foot the final whistle finally came, (if we had one.) We were over the moon and they were as sick as parrots but full credit to the other team for making a game of it !!!

The other notable events being the number of offsides Alan and Jon obtained between them totalling about 20. The absence of a ref, dodgy linesmen and a complete lack of fitness all contributed to this tally
