Kenilworth Wardens unbeaten start to the season came to end as Claverdon 2nds recorded their third straight win by 5 wickets.
Having elected to bat, the Wardens were soon in trouble, with two batsmen brilliantly run out by James Pearl inside the first 5 overs. A period of consilidation followed for Kenilworth, who found runs hard to get against some excellent tight bowling, noteably from Steve Lovatt and Richard Parker who were both well supported in the field. The best action of the afternoon invloved Shop who was lucky to stay on the field following a vicious tacke from behind on Damien White, any other game Shopper it would have been a red card!, Wardens finally closed on 141-7 from their 45 overs.
Claverdon started briskly in reply with both Bob Phillips and James Pearl hitting early boundaries, including the shot of the day from James with a wonderful straight drive. All the top order contributed well with 20+ scores each and it was finally left to Parker and Damien to spend about 4 days to get the winning runs.
Another excellent display which sees us stay towards the top of the table, with a win against Twyning next week a real push for promotion during the second half of the season is a realistic target.
