Well-Fought Draw

Ally  Friday, April 13, 2001  01:21 GMT

The big game against Albion finished in a 3-3 draw despite going ahead 1-0 thanks to a Ross Cochrane goal we were pegged back to 1-1 after Albion were awarded a penalty. We then won a penalty of our own as Greg McHattie was brought down by the goalkeeper when he was clean through on goals, but despite this being a goalscoring oppurtunity and the goalkeeper being last man the referee decided that only a yellow card should be shown, even though according to the rules it should have clearly been a red card. Captain Cameron McCombie then cooly stepped up ignored all the shouting from the sidelines and placed his penalty in the bottom corner making it 2-1 Middlefield. Later a Ryan Sinclar cross-cum-shot then lobbed the Albion goalkeeper and clearly went in, but hit the stantion and bounced back out. Everyone barring the Referee seemed to realise that it hit the stantion and this was shown as the Albion sideline began cheering and laughing. Albion then managed to pull the game back to 2-2 and then went 3-2 ahead just before half-time. the second-half kicked off and after only about 5 or 10 minutes Middlefield equalised through Greg McHattie. The game then seemed to go flat with less opportunitys arriving. Perhaps some substitutions early on in the second half might have changed things but in saying that Middlefield did exceptionally well to earn a 3-3 all draw without a recoignised keeper on the park. With a bit of luck we will perhaps have our full squad available against Albion (which would be a first) for a cup final at the end of the season.
