Well well well what a night, it was just great to see speedway back at Plough Lane,

It had been clear skies around Mitcham and Tooting all day, with just a few clouds hovering over head, right up until about 4:30 this afternoon when it just started to spit down, as I was on the bus coming down to the stadium it then started to come down really heavy.
It would of been rained off if it was not the meeting it was the grand re opening meeting of Wimbledon Speedway.

There was a delightful sound as the gates were open by all the helpers selling raffle tickets( including myself and my mum) and programmes.
The start of the meeting was delayed by amost 45 mins as to let the thousands of fans into the stadium that were queing outside to welcome the Dons back in fabulous style.
Extra gates had to be opened and other parts of the stadium, due to incresing crowds.

When the meeting finally got underway, Dave Croucher did the introductions of the riders and what a tremendous feeling it was to be able to shout for your team, as the Dons were introduced a roar of delight swepted the stadium. Ronnie Moore was introduced as the Mighty King of Plough Lane undisputed World Champion, Ronnie was due to do a couple of laps around on the bike however due to track conditions was not able to do so, but he came out onto the center green and made a speech.

We then held a two minutes silence for David Nix who sadly lost his life in a speedway meeting last night. I would like to pass on my condolences to David's friends and family and everyone who knew him on behalf of EVERYONE at Wimbledon Speedway.

Track action then got underway, we could see right from the beginning that the track was very slick and not the best track conditions, but all the riders put on a brave and outstanding performance to entertain the thousands of people that turned up to watch.

After race two there was a long delay while the track staff graded the track to see if it helped the conditions. Racing then started back once the track had been inspected.

The best race of the night was heat 9 when Glen Phillips was put in as a TS to replace Martin Williams. Glen Phillips was leading the race and there was a battle going on for second and third between Gary Sweet and Lee Smethills, when Gary Sweet swept around Lee to join Glen on a 5-1 to the Dons, Gary riding his heart out to hold lee off and put him into 3rd place.

During about race 10 the rain then started to come down again this time it was really heavy, therefore after heat 12 it was abandoned due to rain.

It was a great evening and I would like to thank the Bellevue cols riders and management for a great meeting and also to the Dons riders and management for bringing speedway back to the mighty Plough Lane.

Well what a great evening down at Plough Lane tonight the Dons operated R/R in the number 4 position.
New signning David Meldrum didn't have a good night he seemed to have a few engine problems and also took a few tumbles, due to trying just a little bit too hard.
Phil Ambrose stood in for Peter Colleyer, Phil did a great job and looked a great rider.
The Dons other new signning Jason Prynne, made an excellent debut in the Dons Colours by scoring a great 19 points from 7 rides.

Hopefully Cris Hunt our very own captain will be ok and that he has a speedy recovery.

That's all folks, here's for some more Action at Plough Lane Next Thursday when we take on Boston.
